Status
Formerly the most abundant bird species in North America, its loss should be a perpetual reminder of mankind's ability to cause drastic change to the natural world--even over 100 years ago. Following massive declines in the late 1800s, the last individual died in the Cincinnati Zoo on 9/1/1914.
