Description

Fruiting body has two forms: asexual is gray/white, soft, powdery with multiple lobes; white, soft flesh. Sexual form is black, hard, and brittle like burnt wood and is easily detached from wood substrate (J. Solem, pers. comm.).

Where To Find

Solitary or scattered on stumps or bases of hardwoods, primarily oaks.
