Codium fragile subsp. tomentodoides is an invasive species in Maryland (MISC 2022).

Description

Codium fragile is a green seaweed that grows attached to hard substrata in the intertidal and shallow sub-tidal zones. Plants branch repeatedly giving them a bushy appearance in the water.

Where To Find

You are likely to encounter Codium fragile in any of the coastal bays (Assawoman, Isle of Wight, or Sinepuxent). It will sometimes wash up on beaches late in the season or after summer storms.
