Status

This undescribed hickory-feeding leafminer moth is thought to be a member of the S. betulicola species-group. The caterpillar of the related Stigmella caryaefoliella forms a similar, narrow linear mine with a narrow central frass line in a hickory leaf. In this undescribed species, the frass line fills the mine width for at least part of the mine length (Eiseman, 2021: 1255-56). The BOLD BIN of the species is BOLD:ABX4303, which is most closely related to a BIN of the polyphagous leafminer species Stigmella corylifoliella.

Relationships

Larval host plants include Bitternut Hickory, Shagbark Hickory, and Mockernut Hickory (Eiseman, 2021).
